Anjos Studio

The small studio, located in Lisbon’s Anjos neighborhood, was found in an advanced state of deterioration. The main challenge of the project was to make the space habitable, given its unusual construction features: situated at the base of the building, the unit had been partially carved into the natural rock. As a result, no exterior walls existed — only exposed stone surfaces, resembling a cave-like interior.

To ensure proper living conditions, the entire space was insulated and waterproofed to prevent moisture infiltration.

Access is provided through a secondary street at the rear of the building. On the upper level, the aim was to create a compact apartment equipped with all essential functions — a kitchen, bathroom, living area, workspace, and sleeping area. This transformation was made possible through the construction of a timber mezzanine, which allowed the available height to be optimized and the limited floor area to be used efficiently.
