Campolide Apartment

This project involved the renovation of an apartment in a 1920s building in Lisbon’s Campolide neighbourhood. Having remained largely unchanged since the 1960s, the apartment presented both a challenge and an opportunity: to recover its original character while adapting it to contemporary standards of comfort and functionality.

From the outset, the client intended for the kitchen to serve as the central space of the home. The design focused on creating a kitchen that balances practicality, comfort, and fluid circulation, while maintaining a clean, refined aesthetic suitable for everyday use.

The bathroom was conceived as a key architectural feature — a sculptural volume in which the sanitary elements merge into a single, continuous form. The toilet, integrated into a built-in bench, connects seamlessly with the bathtub and washbasin, reinforcing a sense of unity and material cohesion.

Both the interior and exterior underwent a comprehensive transformation, with layers of cement plaster and previous repairs removed to reveal the building’s original textures and structural proportions.

All built-in furniture, including beds, shelving, and wardrobes, was custom-designed for each space, ensuring functionality while maintaining a consistent architectural and material language throughout the apartment.
